Five Pin Bowling is a healthy and fun recreation, as well as a tremendous source for the "Pleasure of Good Companionship" Men, women, juniors, adults, and seniors alike participate: from 3 to over 93!

It is a healthy social activity, easy to learn, and can be enjoyed all year as an all-weather sport and recreation. The competitive aspect of the sport provides fun and excitement for everyone who participates.

Bowling is a lifetime sport and its benefits last a lifetime!

The Game

Five pin bowling is a lifetime activity that you can participate in regardless of age, gender or physical stature. This popular sport can be played by either individuals or teams and provides many opportunities to further personal achievements. Zone, provincial and national championships are held for all ages and skill levels.

Scoring

In 5 pin bowling, each pin has an assigned value. The head pin (centre) is worth 5 points, each two of the adjacent pins (on either side of the head pin) are worth 3 points each and the two end pins are worth 2 points each, for a total of 15 possible points in each frame.

A perfect game consists of 12 consecutive strikes which would score a 450 game. This is a lifetime goal and challenge for many bowlers.

Strikes

A strike is when all five pins are knocked down with 1 ball. Scoring a strike in a frame allows the bowler to add points from the next two balls thrown in the following frame.

Spares

A spare is when all five pins are knocked down within 2 balls. Scoring a spare in a frame allows the bowler to add point from the first ball thrown in the following frame.

Foul Line

A foul occurs when any part of the bowler’s body or apparel crosses over the foul line during the delivery of the ball. Each foul will result in 15 points being deducted from the bowler’s score.
